Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2015 Chevrolet Volt?
The NHTSA has issued 8 recalls that may affect the 2015 Chevrolet Volt, including steering, propulsion software, engine management, seat belt retractors, rear brake caliper/system, and the driver air bag. These recalls address risks such as potential tie-rod separation causing loss of steering, low-voltage propulsion loss, battery/engine management issues that could cause unattended engine operation, seat belt retractor lock failures, reduced rear braking performance, and improper air bag inflation. Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues can check NHTSA records and your VIN and perform all required recall repairs free of charge; you can schedule service online.
How do I check if my 2015 Chevrolet Volt has an open recall?
You can check your VIN at NHTSA.gov or bring your vehicle to a certified dealer and we will check for open recalls at no charge. Provide your VIN and we will verify NHTSA records, confirm applicable campaigns, and advise on next steps—Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues offers this service to Jacksonville-area owners. If you prefer convenience, call or schedule appointment online and our service team will run the recall check when you arrive.
How much does a 2015 Chevrolet Volt recall repair cost?
Manufacturer-required recall repairs are performed free of charge at authorized dealers. All corrective actions described by GM for the 2015 Chevrolet Volt — such as steering gear replacement, software reprogramming, air bag module replacement, seatbelt retractor inspection/replacement, and brake system service — are covered by the manufacturer and completed at no cost to you. If additional non-recall services are recommended, ask about current service specials and our service financing options so you can get service now and pay later.
Can I get my 2015 Chevrolet Volt recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall work must be completed by an authorized dealer to ensure proper parts, software, and warranty handling; Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues is an authorized Chevrolet franchise and the safe choice for recall repairs. Franchise dealers use OEM parts, GM factory diagnostics, and manufacturer training — essential for recalls that involve steering gear replacement, HPCM2 reprogramming, air bag module replacement, or brake system service. For safety and to preserve warranty and resale value, schedule service with our certified team via schedule service rather than relying on an independent shop for recall campaigns.
How long does a 2015 Chevrolet Volt recall repair take?
Repair time varies by recall: software updates often take under an hour, while parts replacement (steering gear or air bag module) can take several hours to a day depending on parts availability. Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues strives for fast turnaround and will give you an estimated time when you schedule appointment; we also provide loaner options and shuttle service when available. Call ahead or check our service specials and availability so we can prioritize safety repairs and keep you on the road safely in Jacksonville, FL and the surrounding communities.
Does an open recall affect my 2015 Chevrolet Volt's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved recall can negatively impact trade-in offers and resale value because dealers and private buyers often verify recall status before purchase. Getting recalls repaired at a factory dealership like Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues protects value, documents completed work on manufacturer records, and reassures future buyers that safety items were resolved with OEM parts and trained technicians. If you’re preparing to trade, start by resolving recalls — you can request an appraisal after service at our trade-in page: sell-your-car-online.htm.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2015 Chevrolet Volt recall?
Open recalls are safety issues that can impact inspections and insurance claims; while state rules vary, serious unresolved recalls (brakes, steering, air bags) can lead to failed inspections or denied claims. Addressing recalls promptly ensures your vehicle meets safety requirements and helps avoid inspection or registration complications; Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues handles these repairs free of charge. Schedule service online or contact our service department to confirm which recalls apply to your VIN and to schedule service with confidence.
