Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?
The NHTSA lists 42 recall actions affecting the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD covering airbags, seat belts, fuel systems, brakes, fuel tanks, engine components and more. Key issues include roof-rail air bag inflator defects that can separate and propel metal parts, SDM/software issues that may prevent air bag or pretensioner deployment, brake pedal pivot nut loosening that can make the pedal loose or inoperative, and fuel-tank or dual-tank fuel sensor faults that can lead to overfilling and fuel leaks. All recall information cited here is sourced from NHTSA records; Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues can confirm a vehicle's exact open recall list using your VIN and schedule any required repair.
How do I check if my 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD has an open recall?
You can verify open recalls by checking your VIN at NHTSA.gov or by bringing your truck to Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues for a free VIN recall check. We can look up recalls at the dealership, run OEM diagnostics, and explain any necessary repairs; if a manufacturer remedy exists we will perform the work at no cost. To act now, schedule service online and our factory-trained technicians will confirm recall status and the next steps.
How much does a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs for a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD are performed free of charge to the owner when a remedy is available. Free recall service includes OEM parts and manufacturer-specified labor performed by factory-trained technicians at Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues; if additional non-recall repairs are requested those can be covered by service specials or financing. Learn about current offers on our service specials and apply for service financing if you need to address non-recall maintenance immediately.
Can I get my 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs must be performed under the manufacturer program and are best completed by an authorized Chevrolet dealer to ensure OEM parts and proper factory procedures. Independent shops may perform some repairs but only a factory dealer like Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues guarantees OEM replacement parts, updated SDM software reflashes, and documented manufacturer remedies completed according to GM requirements. If you prefer dealer service, schedule service and we will handle NHTSA-listed recall remedial work at no cost.
How long does a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD recall repair take?
Repair time varies by recall: software reflashes and inspections can take under an hour, while inflator or fuel tank replacements can take several hours or require parts ordering. Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues provides estimated turnaround times when you schedule appointment, and we prioritize safety-critical recalls so you can get back on the road quickly. If parts are delayed we will notify you immediately and can often offer interim safety advice or loaner options where available.
Does an open recall affect my 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD's trade-in or resale value?
Yes — unresolved recalls can lower resale and trade-in value because buyers and dealers often verify NHTSA recall status before purchase. Completing manufacturer recall repairs at an authorized dealer like Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues preserves value, documents the service history, and eliminates safety flags that may reduce offers from trade or private buyers. When you're ready, get a fast online quote at our sell your car page and schedule recall service to protect value before you trade or sell.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD recall?
Open recalls generally do not automatically fail a state inspection, but some safety-related defects (seat belts, airbags, fuel leaks) can lead to inspection failures if they affect regulated safety systems. Resolving recalls at an authorized dealer removes safety risks that could otherwise impact inspections, insurance claims, and accident liability; Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues will complete required repairs free of charge when remedies are available. If you have inspection concerns, schedule service and our team will inspect recall items before your state check.
