Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2016 Chevrolet Spark?
The NHTSA has issued 22 recalls affecting the 2016 Chevrolet Spark across air bag, electrical, hood latch, transmission software, seat belt, and front suspension systems. Major air bag issues include SDM (sensing and diagnostic module) software problems, improper passenger air bag inflator welds, and risks to unbelted children; electrical recalls center on radio software that can disable audible chimes; hood latch recalls address a corroding secondary latch striker; and a front suspension recall requires immediate inspection because lower control arm bolts may be loose. These summaries come from NHTSA records; if you want us to check your VIN and confirm open recalls, schedule service and we will verify for free.
How do I check if my 2016 Chevrolet Spark has an open recall?
Use your VIN on NHTSA.gov or bring your car to a dealer and we will check for you for free. Cass of action: you can enter your 17-character VIN at NHTSA.gov or contact Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues in Jacksonville — we will run the VIN, explain any open recalls, and schedule service if repairs are required. We also offer service financing so you can get recall work done now and pay later; ask our service advisors when you schedule appointment.
How much does a 2016 Chevrolet Spark recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs are free of charge to the owner under the recall program. Every corrective action listed by NHTSA for the 2016 Chevrolet Spark — such as SDM software reflashes, passenger air bag replacements, radio software updates, striker replacements for the hood latch, or inspection and tightening of suspension bolts — is performed at no cost to you at an authorized Chevrolet dealer like Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues. If additional non‑recall work is requested, we will provide an estimate and offer service specials; see current service specials.
Can I get my 2016 Chevrolet Spark recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs must be completed by an authorized dealer to ensure OEM parts and manufacturer procedures are used and the repair is recorded with the manufacturer and NHTSA. Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues is a factory-authorized Chevrolet franchise with manufacturer-trained technicians, OEM diagnostic tools, and the official software and parts required to complete recall remedies correctly and record completion with GM and NHTSA. If you want the safety and documentation that come with franchise recall repairs, schedule service with us and we will handle the rest.
How long does a 2016 Chevrolet Spark recall repair take?
Typical recall jobs range from a short software reflash that takes under an hour to parts replacements that can take several hours; exact time depends on the specific recall remedy. For example, SDM reflashes and radio software updates for the 2016 Chevrolet Spark are usually quick, while passenger air bag replacement or hood latch striker replacement can take longer; the front suspension recall for certain 2014 models requires immediate inspection and may require transportation arrangements if the vehicle is not safe to drive. To minimize wait time, schedule appointment online and ask about loaner options or shuttle service when you book.
Does an open recall affect my 2016 Chevrolet Spark's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved recall can reduce resale and trade-in value and may deter buyers who check NHTSA records or dealer history reports. Having recalls completed at a franchise dealer like Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues protects your vehicle value by ensuring official repairs are recorded with the manufacturer; we can also provide documentation for trade or private sale and offer an appraisal through our online trade tool at sell your car online. Addressing recalls promptly also helps with insurance and inspection requirements and reassures buyers that safety defects have been corrected.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2016 Chevrolet Spark recall?
State inspection rules vary, but safety-related recalls — especially those affecting airbags, seat belts, suspension, or hood latches — can cause compliance issues and may lead to failed safety checks in some jurisdictions. The NHTSA recall for the front suspension (lower control arm bolts) instructs owners not to drive the vehicle until repairs are made; this type of open recall can directly impact inspection and registration in some states, so it should be addressed immediately at a certified dealer. Schedule service online to have Coggin Chevrolet at the Avenues inspect and correct any open recalls and provide the documentation you need for inspections and safe driving.
